2. Do not wait until the last day.
The biggest mistake most people make is to prepare for job interview on the day of the interview or the night before. Who do you think you are? The hr manager of the company that you know it all about the position, the interview and the company? As soon as you get the interview call that is when you should start to prepare for job interview.
3. Do background research.
Prepare for job interview because you need to impress the employer with your knowledge of the position and the company and you only do that if you prepare for job interview. If you have to research even on what the people who work there eat, then do that! However, have in-depth information about the company, the industry, the people who work there, their culture and the position that you are applying. Remember how you did research on the college offering the online university degree you took? Do the same. Have you checked out their social media? Their facebook, their twitter? Be above average, interact with them, and post good comments that show your knowledge of what they do.
4. Be familiar with your resume.
Seriously, how do you read your resume in front of the interviews when asked a question during the interview? It shows you did not prepare for job interview. Let the resume be your bible in the days following the interview second the the research information and interview questions. Walk, talk and eat your resume, if you have to sleep with it to get all that on your fingerprints word-by-word then so be it. Know all the credits you took for your on campus or online university degree and which relate to the position directly. Lack of knowledge of your resume shows you did not prepare for job interview.
5. Do you know the common interview questions?
You need to know the commonly asked questions during interviews when you prepare for job interview. Anticipating these questions puts you in a good place at the interview and gives you confidence. Anticipating the potential questions and having the answers ready shows the interviewers just how prepared you are. Research on commonly asked questions and find out the proper answers for them. This is the third bible you will walk around with when you prepare for job interview.
Having the potential questions and their answers is not enough to acing the interview. Also important when you prepare for job interview is getting a structure of how you will handle the questions. How do you get this? Do a mock interview. Have a friend or a relative ask you the questions and answer them, not only will this make you comfortable with giving the answers, but you will learn how to maintain eye contact when answering them, appropriate terminology and from where to start tackling the questions.
7. Get plenty of rest.
This is very important when you prepare for job interview. You have had enough time to prepare the last day you need to sleep early. You should never show up at the interview looking tired and sleepDress the part.
Since you did research on the company, you already know their dressing culture. Do not overdo it though. You do not want to draw all the attention to your clothes and not what you are saying. Remember formal clothing is recommended for interviews. If the company dress code does not follow this, please just be formal regardless.
8. Be confident
When you prepare for job interview encourage yourself that you are the best candidate, have that fixed in your mind no matter what you hear from other candidates. Confidence also means that you are not afraid to admit that you do not know some other things instead of lying. You may think you are fooling the interviewer but you are not. Acknowledge that you do not know but will find out about it later and let them know.
9. On the D-day.
Arrive at least 15 minutes before the interview. Prepare for job interview by checking the newspaper of the day and the company website to check out the latest update.
