Preparing for Job Interview in the Business World

There is no one way that is better in preparing for job interview; rather they are different strategies that will help you. What makes the difference is how you apply them and if you do actually apply them. Regardless of whether you ace the interview or not, it is a learning experience for the future ones.

Preparing for job interview requires assessment of skills, updating the resume, research, mock interviews, dressing and appearance, knowing the location of the interview, what to expect as well as the protocols for follow up. For someone who has not been on one for sometime, interview can seem challenging to them. However, after preparing for job interview they will have a smooth time.  So what do you do when preparing for job interview?

1.  Don’t go blindly

With the current technological age of internet and even online university degrees, no one is excused for not knowing anything about the company they are interviewing for plus the position. Infact if I was the interview that would be my first question, you it wrong I throw you out! Actually most interview begin with what do you know about our company? Each company has a website with full information about the company including their annual reports and financial reports. All these information will give you a competitive edge while preparing for job interview. Secondly, you need to know about the job. Go back to the advert that was placed whether it was in the local newspaper, hope you kept the copy, if it was one you got through a recruitment company go to them, they will give you the vital information about the position. Go back to the company website and see if they say anything about the position. If you cannot get any information then get help from social media and the internet on similar positions.

2. Know yourself

Do you know what your strengths and weaknesses are? Why are you preparing for job interview if you do not know whether you are a match for the job? Look at the job description and list the areas that your strengths will come in handy. Do the credits you took in your on campus or online university degree fit? However, you should note that no one is 100% perfect match for the job. You must have some weaknesses, which you will constantly need to work on while in that position. Why do you need to know your weakness you may ask? This is because the interviewer will ask about them and coming up with one during the interview will not fool anyone just as is pretending that you are perfect. What is important if you know how to work around that weakness you have.

3. Mock interviews

Like we said, like any other skill interviewing skill needs preparation and practice to be sharpened. Whether it is your first ever interview, whether you have attended numerous interviews, when preparing for job interview you will need to practice. What do you practice with? The interview questions that you will be asked. This is like your small cheat sheet. Go online, get the common questions asked in interviews, and find their answers. Tailor make them to fit with your job experience, on campus or online university degrees skills and job position you are interviewing for. Then have a friend or relative help you practice by asking you the questions and observing how you answer them back. In addition to having information about the company and the position this is the second most important thing you need to do while preparing for job interview.

4. Final preparations.

Knowing what to wear to the interview is an important part in preparing for job interview. You need to select the proper attire and get it ready, clean it and iron it. Wear them and see how comfortable you look and fill in them, including the shoes. Avoid tight or clothes which are too short. Minimize on your accessories remember less is more.

Know the exact location of the interview when preparing for job interview and find out how long it takes you to get there. Allow time for traffic and the 15 minutes you will require to be there in advance. Carry a pen and a small notebook.

How much do you know about it ?

TESTIMONIALS
I started up my business when I was 22 years old and I was a very dedicated entrepreneur.  I was a self taught computer science expert but I lack of any academic qualification.  It is very difficult for me to manage my staffs because they are all university graduates.  I am not able to use my degree from OKdegree.com to convince my staff that I have more real world knowledge than they have.  In addition, this qualification is a plus when I put into the government tender to increase my winning chance.

DAVID BEIM

United Kingdom

I was a self taught computer scientist by the time I was 22 and have run several successful websites. Before getting my university degree from you, I worked in a multinational IT corporation. The lack of university qualification meant that I didn’t even get to the interview stage and was passed over for less experienced university graduates, but no knowledge of REAL WORLD Information Technology Management.   The first job I applied for after getting my university degree from OKDegree.com  resulted in being called to a job  interview. I was offered a job few days later for a good salary package after I demonstrate my skills during the interview. If I don’t have an university degree, I would not able to come up in this level.

JIM KIM YOON

South Korea

When I renewed my passport including details of my new Doctorate. Without a specific request, my new passport included an entry in the special observations section to the effect that the holder of the passport was ‘Dr’ and not ‘Mr’. I have found that when traveling I enjoy an enhanced level of courtesy.

DON KELLY

South Africa

After getting my doctorate degree, I presented my passport and credit card to buy my air ticket.  I had changed my passport and credit card to my new reference of my title.  When the ticket was printed and I was told to check in in counter number 12.  The queue is at least 50 people in that counter.  After 10 minute wait, I was told to counter 11 by a charming crew from Air France.  The counter was opened especially for me to check in my baggage.  I am surprised the level of courtesy I get from my Doctorate degree.

SIMON HODRICK

Germany

I am self employed and put the two titles from my Degrees, BA and MBA on my letterhead and my business card.  Although my business does not require a university degree, I have noticed there is a sharp increase in clients seeking my services. In addition, I have also noticed they bargain less to my fees and estimates and my clients fully trusted of my professional service and advise based on my professional degree from your university.
